Meet Sothea! He is our Tour Manager and responsible for all our tour operation. He first started to work for OFF TRACK in 2013. While he was still studying at university, he was looking for a job and found a posting about the position as a cycling guide. After a successful interview he started to work for OFF TRACK as a freelance guide for about one year. Because of his great commitment to the organisation he then got promoted to our Tour Operator in 2014 and to the Tour Manager a year after. Even though nowadays he spends most of his working time in our tour office he still gets to guide a tour occasionally. What he loves most about his job is to work independently without pressure in a good working atmosphere for everyone. He loves that he gets to meet people from all around the world, can keep a balance between office work and tour guiding and, of course, that he can help support the KKO school.

Asked about which tour he likes the most, he answered without thinking: the Angkor Off Road Tour. As reasons he mentioned that it doesn’t start too early (in comparison to the sunrise tour), the route leads through the off-road to escape the crowded areas and most of the tourists and you get to see beautiful nature. In addition, he very vividly described the adventurous moment of cycling through a small forest trail when suddenly the temple appears. A memorable experience from a tour he guided, which he still keeps in mind, was with a Singaporean group. They stopped at temple Ta Nei and found a swing hung between trees. Sitting on that swing and joking around he remembers as moments of pure enjoyment and happiness.

For him there are three must-do’s in Siem Reap you cannot miss as a visitor. First and most important: see the temples around Angkor Wat. Secondly, he would recommend visiting the lakes and gardens around the city, in his opinion the perfect locations to relax. For more action and evening plans he recommends a stroll along the pub street and night market. However, his personal favorite thing to do in Siem Reap is his lunch time, which he spends every day in the same shop with local coffee and watching TV.
